No Chapter Left Behind:
Interim Solutions While
Fiber is Coming
May 15, 2025.
While fiber infrastructure takes shape over the next few years, the Navajo Nation Broadband Office (NNBO) is ensuring a continued roll-out of access with interim broadband solutions.
Using the technology of satellite and fixed wireless, 58 unconnected Chapters will soon be online and/or have a faster connection and will be joining the 52 already-connected Chapters.
These fast-tracked solutions will support everything from telehealth and education to Chapter governance—so no chapter community is left behind while long-term infrastructure is built.
Fiber & 5G on the Rise:
Phase I Infrastructure Updates
May 11, 2025
Big changes are on the horizon for broadband on Navajo land.
NNBO (Navajo Broadband Office), is laying the groundwork for and rolling out Phase I of a robust telecommunications strategy, including new mobile 5G towers and expanded fiber coverage.
Backed by reallocated ARPA funds, this infrastructure will connect communities faster and farther than ever before.
The journey to connection doesn’t stop here—future phases will depend on continued investment and support from all stakeholders, including you and your local delegate!
Tribal-Led Push for 20,000+ Connections: BEAD Strategy in 3 States
May 8, 2025.
From Arizona to New Mexico to Utah, NNBO, Navajo Nation Broadband Office, is going all-in on BEAD funding opportunities.
The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program is a federal initiative that aims to address the digital divide and bring broadband to over 20,000 unserved homes and institutions.
Their Arizona team even challenged state data and won—reclaiming over 8,000 addresses for eligibility.
These hybrid fiber and wireless applications reflect a strategic, forward-thinking approach to deliver scalable, high-impact broadband solutions.
$27 Million Saved:
E-Rate Program Milestone Connects 52 Chapters
May 6, 2025
The Navajo Nation Broadband Office, NNBO, is transforming how community institutions like schools and libraries get online.
With strategic use of the E-Rate program, a Federally Funded program that includes funding for internet to libraries, 52 Chapter libraries have already been connected to fiber—with 58 more coming online soon.
By negotiating smarter and partnering closely with service providers, NNBO has slashed deployment costs from $49 million to $23 million.
That’s $27 million in savings!
Showing that tribal-led broadband development is both effective and efficient.
Policy Power:
Building Tribal Sovereignty Through Telecom Governance
May 1, 2025.
Connectivity is more than fiber, towers, and satellites—it’s about sovereignty.
The Navajo Nation Broadband Office, NNBO, is working across agencies to modernize permitting, streamline infrastructure planning, and solidify telecom regulations that reflect Diné priorities.
By investing in internal teams and supporting efficiency in tribal regulatory processes and authorities, NNBO is laying the regulatory and organizational groundwork for long-term digital strength and independence.
Partners in Progress:
Telecom & the Path
to Economic Growth
April 30, 2025
Broadband is not just a service—it’s an economic engine.
The Navajo Nation Broadband Office, NNBO, is actively cultivating partnerships with telecom providers, exploring open-access models, and evaluating ways to monetize tower access and fiber infrastructure.
These efforts are designed to bring revenue back to the Nation and lower costs for Diné families. Through smart partnerships and bold strategy, the future of Navajo broadband is both connected and self-sustaining
SOME CONNECT DINÉ ACHIEVEMENTS
Broadband Infrastructure Development
The Navajo Nation Broadband Office (NNBO) Plan focuses on constructing critical “middle-mile” infrastructure to enable residential broadband access and mobile 5G services across the Nation. i.e. 78 towers and over 1,500 miles of fiber.
Navajo Nation Telecom Regulatory Reforms
NNBO is lending its support to the Navajo Nation Land Department and the Navajo Nation Division of Natural Resources on key policy and regulatory advancements to set the stage for expedited deployment of broadband infrastructure in the future.
Sattelite As An
Interim Solution for Chapters
NNBO will be implementing, over time, a satellite, aka, Low Earth Orbit (LEO), based interim connectivity project to provide broadband access to Chapters that have no service or unreliable service.
